BASEBALL TRAINING BEGINS IN NOVA ALIANCA
Behind the Church at Nova Alianca (New Alliance), located on the GEM Farm of Encouragement, 4 teens attacked the overgrown weeds with hoes and a weedeater. Soon the baseball field began to take shape. Joao Vitor, a 16-year old youth from the church led the group. It was he who brought the request to reinitiate baseball training to Roberto Flores, coordinator for the farm. A physical education student at the Federal University in Corumba, Josue Cristiano, 21, also of the church, will lend a hand to begin practices with the equipment on hand. These young men are excited to reach young boys in the community for Christ.

Ruth's Testimony
In 2000, Bro. Carl and Sister Wanda moved to Corumba. They offered a Masterlife class in their apartment. A friend encouraged me to do the class because I had a desire to reach my neighbors for Christ. It was a great class. I feel like everything I learned about evangelizing I learned from Wanda in Masterlife. I had a Bible study in my home and we have continued that. Our dream has been to see a church in this neighborhood which has been a hard place to live, with drug deals and fighting. That Bible study grew and now meets in a larger home down the street and in August we will have our own church building on the corner above my house. I feel like this church is a result of that Masterlife class. My pastor at Third Baptist church asked me if I had a diploma. I don't know where my diploma is but I still have the little salt shaker that Sister Wanda gave us when we held our graduation party. It reminds me that I am the salt for my neighborhood. |

A Weight Lifted on the River
Roberto Flores, our GEM liason in Corumba, traveled this summer with the GEM team on the Pantavida along the rivers of the Pantanal.
“The landscape of the Pantanal is beyond commentary, a marvelous example of the beauty and creativity of the Creation. Each part of the river has something new and different, even as one fades into the other,” Robert says. “Wherever we went we were well-received.”
